Nana Adjoa Hackman is a barrister, solicitor, and Notary Public with extensive legal and advisory experience. She is the Managing Partner and co-founder of Africa Legal Associates (ALA), a leading pan-African corporate law firm based in Ghana.

A specialist in corporate governance, banking, and petroleum law & policy, Ms. Hackman provides strategic counsel to multinational corporations and international businesses operating across Africa. She was called to the Bar in Ghana in 2003 and began her career in private practice at the prestigious firm Kudjawu & Co. Her extensive in-house experience includes serving as the Head of Legal and Company Secretary for United Bank for Africa (Ghana) Limited until 2016, after which she fully dedicated herself to growing ALA, which she co-founded in 2015.

Ms. Hackman’s expertise extends beyond legal practice into core business leadership, having founded and managed several companies at a board level since 2004. Her contributions to public service include a term on the Board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation from 2017 to 2021. She is a member of the global advisory board for the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and has served as a judge for the Women of the Future & TESCO 50 Rising Stars in ESG awards from 2022 to 2024.

Nana Adjoa has an MBA with merit from the Imperial College Business School, where she studied on the “Inspiring Women – Executive MBA scholarship” awarded by Imperial College Business School in Partnership with the 30% club, a campaign that aims to secure gender balance in board rooms across the world. She also has an LLM degree with distinction from the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CPEMLP), University of Dundee, Scotland, awarded in 2010.

Committed to fostering the next generation of leaders, Ms. Hackman represents Imperial College London as a mentor on Moving Ahead and 30% Club’s Mission Gender Equity cross-company mentoring programme. She is also the founder of Drive to Inspire – Africa, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering African youth through education and mentorship.
